NMS Communications and engenic Partner to Streamline Voice Application Development
engenic's Telephony Toolkit Leverages NMS' Voice Processing Platforms for Quick, Cost-Effective Voice Application Creation; British Columbia Railway Among Customers to Benefit
Framingham, MA, US -- May 21, 2002
NMS Communications (NASDAQ: NMSS), the leading supplier of technology for tomorrow's networks, has partnered with engenic Corporation, a leading provider of voice application management solutions, to enable engenic's TeleFlow® Software to work seamlessly within NMS' world-class voice processing platforms. The collaboration is being carried out via NMS' Canadian distribution partner, Integrys Limited. Using NMS and engenic's building blocks, British Columbia Railway quickly developed an automated call-based employee location system crucial to employee safety and, based on the success of that, created an automatic call-routing system for rail repairs.
TeleFlow is an all-in-one telephony software toolkit that removes the complexity in building voice solutions - such as call management, interactive voice response (IVR), voicemail, computer telephony integration, and voice portals - by encapsulating complex functions into simple-to-understand icons. TeleFlow's highly intuitive user interface and easy-to-use navigation features enable users to quickly develop portable, reusable systems that improve business processes, without requiring an understanding of the complexities of software development or communications protocols. Used within a variety of industries in many countries around the world, TeleFlow offers advantages over other products, including on-screen documentation that illustrates exactly what an application does and how it works.
The TeleFlow toolkit works seamlessly with NMS' Alliance Generation voice processing platforms, taking advantage of their carrier-grade density, unmatched capacity, and price/performance leadership. TeleFlow is also being tested with the NMS Convergence GenerationT platforms. Incorporating a digital signal process architecture, the NMS platforms deliver an open development environment, a rich set of features, built-in scalability, and high-density voice processing power, resulting in rapid time-to-market and advanced functionality. The NMS platforms support both public switched telephone network (PSTN) as well as next generation voice-over-IP infrastructure, with the Convergence Generation Series offering a host of functionality including low latency media streaming, full-duplex echo cancellation, IVR, speech encoding, and fax processing.
The Alliance Generation and Convergence Generation platforms are supported by NMS' Natural AccessT software development and runtime environment, and share a common set of application programming interfaces (APIs). These APIs are operating-system independent, and thus deliver true application portability.
"In addition to providing the industry's best IP/PSTN technology, NMS' consistent and simple application programming interfaces made the company our number one choice for offering customers complete functionality for rapid voice application development and delivery," said Vern Baker, president of engenic. "By using TeleFlow software and NMS Communications' platforms, users have an easy, straightforward path to implementing innovative applications with advanced features such as navigation, database integration, text to speech, and voice recognition. We are pleased to have found such a complementary partner in NMS."
Customer Spotlight: BC Rail
Applications now in service at the British Columbia Railway Company (BC Rail)
represent important examples of innovation already made possible by the NMS
and engenic partnership. BC Rail selected TeleFlow and NMS platforms to develop
the railway's employee locator system - an automatic system that tracks employees
who are working in the field, and dispatches a helicopter locator when an
individual does not call to check in at an appointed time.
"Safety is paramount in our business, and we need all the tools possible to keep safety at a high level. With help from engenic and NMS, we were able to quickly develop the ELM (Employee Location Monitoring) System to help track employees who work on their own in the rough terrain of British Columbia," said Dick Ratchford, telecommunications network planner at BC Rail. "The deployment of ELM has worked out very well for us, and with its success we have developed another TeleFlow and NMS application, the Communications Trouble Line, an automated call-routing capability used overnight by rail employees who need to connect with technicians to resolve problems with phone or data equipment. We are again very pleased with the results."
"As NMS' distribution partner in Canada, we are pleased at how pairing NMS' expertise with another key industry player such as engenic results in exciting voice applications," said Brian Flippance, president and CEO of Integrys Limited. "We look forward to helping the two companies simplify application development for a range of Canadian firms."
"NMS and engenic share a common goal of enabling developers to quickly and cost-effectively create and deploy applications and services, and that has already made our partnership rewarding," said Michael Welles, vice president and general manager of NMS Communications' Platforms group. "BC Rail and many other customers will be able to easily implement communications capabilities needed to efficiently run their businesses, using the intuitiveness of the TeleFlow user interface and icons, and the density, versatility, and scalability of NMS' Alliance Generation and Convergence Generation platforms."
